My sister, asked me to make her a skinning knife for getting rawhide to use in traditional Western rawhide braiding. I remembered a post from BladeForums.com and got the originator's permission to mess around with his idea. The result was a nice purpose-built knife that keeps the user from puncturing the hide.
The handle is a hand-made laminate of cotton duck, denim, and epoxy, and the "stain" on the blade is the result of a heat treating process which gives a sharp refined edge while keeping the knife strong along the spine.
